Since a few years research in „future internet“ has been intensified. The main question is, if the basic design, which was implemented in the 1970s is still suited for the requirements of the information society in the 21st century. Politics is taking up the issue and research programmes have been launched in the U.S. (GENI and FIND) and Europe (FIRE – a project in the 7th framework programme). Wolfgang Reichl and Dr. Helmut Malleck held a presentation on June 17th 2009 in the Austrian Electrotechnical Association OVE in Vienna. The lecture presented an overview of the research initiatives, which aim at a large scale testbed for future internet. The presentation can be downloaded here.
